Antioxidant Skin Rescue
The West has been sweltering under an unforgiving yellow orb in triple-digit, global-warming temperatures; forest fires have been burning out of control in Florida and Georgia. The scorching heat wave over America even helped fuel a 160,000-acre wildfire in Utah that jumped a freeway, forcing the closure of Interstate 15 for a 100-mile stretch in July.
An excessive heat watch, something not issued often in the Pacific Northwest, was posted in July for the Seattle metro area, southwest Washington, and northwest Oregon all the way to the coast. High temperatures were forecast to skyrocket to over 100 in Oregon's fertile Willamette Valley.
And in the Northeast, high temperatures are arriving earlier than ever.
Adding insult to injury, a recent scientific study found the global sunscreen is thinning and more UV radiation is reaching the earth than ever before.
If these are not good signs for our environment, they are also not very good signs for fair, sparkling, unblemished skin.
Antioxidant skin protection during these environmentally challenging times should be your skin rescue mantra.
Free-radical damage from aging, smoking, drinking, chemical pollutants and especially the sun deplete the body's natural antioxidant defenses, damage elastin and other support structures, and are thought to produce DNA mutations that can lead to skin cancer, wrinkling, leathering, and blotching.
When the skin is short on antioxidants, it becomes vulnerable to free-radical damage and can't produce enough natural collagen-the body's intercellular cement-and it ages prematurely.
Topical Antioxidants
"There are two great advantages in applying an active formulation of topical antioxidants to the skin," says New York dermatologist Karen Burke, M.D., in the July 2004 issue of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. Burke, a leading expert in topical antioxidants, says the skin attains far higher levels of each antioxidant than can be achieved by only taking these vitamins orally. "The level of vitamin C attained in the skin by topical application is 20 [to] 40 times that achievable with oral vitamin C. With topical application, the concentration of vitamin E in the skin increases by a factor of 10.6... Second, topical application arms the skin with a reservoir of antioxidants that cannot be washed or rubbed off, a protection which stays in the skin for several days after application."
Use Combinations
In January 2005, researchers reported once again in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, "Combination of vitamins C and E, partly with other photoprotective compounds, did increase the photoprotective effects dramatically compared to monotherapies."
In other words, when it comes to your skin, a variety of topical organic antioxidants works best. Now, with antioxidants such as green tea, sea buckthorn and topical Ester-C®, your skin can be nurtured and nourished to prevent premature aging.
Get Enough Vitamins C and E
Be especially careful to get lots of healthy skin-nurturing vitamins C and E (a regular feature of the Aubrey Organics unique preservative mix).
Older skin, in particular, may not get enough vitamin C from the body's internal blood supply, so it makes sense to apply it topically to those areas where it can fortify needed antioxidant protection.
Avoid Toxic Skin care Ingredients
What you don't want to do is slather on petrochemical-based cosmetics that use ingredients linked with global warming processes, dependency on foreign oil-and can really muck up your reproductive and endocrine health.
Most Potent
Start your summer skin rescue with nature's purest, most potent antioxidants for the skin from the world's leading green cosmetic company, Aubrey Organics, as American born and conceived as its Indiana-born visionary leader Aubrey Hampton, playwright, chemist, and Green Patriot. Aubrey Organics is the only skin care line that has always been completely free of harmful preservatives, including parabens and formaldehyde-based compounds, and that has never used phthalates or other petrochemicals.
Producing only small batches of their products, they were also the world's first carbon-neutral skin care line and they are completely organic. For antioxidant protection, Aubrey Organics is by far and away the most prolific, potent and pure line of products we've ever seen-one that boasts the most potent Matcha green tea, Rosa Mosqueta®, sea buckthorn and Ester-C among other organic skin care herbs and nutrients today.
Feed Your Skin Green Tea
Nobody does green tea in their cosmetics quite like Aubrey. Other brands may list green tea, but what kind? Aubrey uses young baby leaves of certified organic Matcha green tea. Science News reports, "Matcha green tea packs the antioxidants. A green tea used in Japanese tea ceremonies contains much more of a beneficial antioxidant than ordinary green tea."
Green tea contains naturally occurring compounds called polyphenols that have powerful antioxidant properties when either imbibed or used in an organic skin care product against leathering and premature aging and sunspots. "There is...evidence that when used as an ingredient in sun block lotions, green tea may inhibit some types of skin cancers," says an expert. "The Japanese National Cancer Research Foundation has gone so far as to describe green tea as 'the cheapest and most practical method of cancer prevention available to the general public.'"
If green tea is the great protector, rose hip seed oil and sea buckthorn are great healers and restorers. Aubrey Organics was also the first company to introduce rose hip seed oil and sea buckthorn-based skin care to America. Rose hip seed oilcertified organic Rosa Mosquetais readily absorbed by the skin to help reverse sun-induced skin redness and irritation, heal sunburn, and eliminate sunspots.
Applying the oil from sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) up to four times per day is quite useful as a mild natural sunscreen and for sunburn therapy. Sea buckthorn is rich in palmitoleic acid, a fatty acid that, although rarely found in significant amounts in the plant world, is an important component of human skin fat. In an experimental wound healing study, sea buckthorn applications, when compared to placebo, led to earlier wound healing with earlier-appearing mature collagen fibers. "The markedly expressed stimulating effect on the healing process is explained with the rich content of vitamins (A, C, E, etc.) and microelements (sulfur, selenium, zinc, copper, etc.) in the extract used," said the researchers.
Vitamin C is probably the most potent agent today available for ensuring healthy, wrinkle-free skin. That is because vitamin C, especially when applied topically, is a strong stimulator of renewed skin growth and helps to maintain normal cell growth. Topical Ester-C, in particular, is able to reach deeper layers of the skin to strongly stimulate healthy skin renewal.
Aloe vera is a traditional plant for soothing sunburn; be sure to always use pure certified organic aloe vera. Other rich antioxidant sources and moisturizers include jojoba oil and shea butter.

The challenges your skin faces today have never been greater. But there's never been a purer or more antioxidant-rich skin care line than Aubrey Organics. Aubrey's Green Tea line is designed for normal skin; Blue-Green Algae line for combination oily skin; Sea Buckthorn for combination dry skin; and Rosa Mosqueta for dry skin.
